6th Grade Social Studies

Teacher Bio Curriculum Homework

I am excited to spend my first year teaching Social Studies with this year's MIMS 6th graders!

My background is a colorful mix of politics and the arts, with a lot of writing in between.

After graduating from the U of M with a degree in Political Science and English, I spent some time working at the state capitol, and then for a lobby group.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family (animals included), as well as hiking and painting.

This year we will be practicing the skills that historians use to analyze Minnesota history between 1800 through today, focusing on how our own state's story fits into US history.

Our textbook Northern Lights is written by the Minnesota Historical Society, which means there are a lot of really great interactive lessons and projects that go beyond the textbook itself.

I believe in making Social Studies as "hands-on" as any other subject.  Students will work with primary and secondary sources, practice historical research, and create history-based artifacts.
