    Minnesota International Middle School

    Student Uniform/Dress Code

    In accordance with the International Schools Policies and Procedures for student code of conduct.

     I.   Purpose

     The purpose of this code is to promote a positive school environment by instituting high expectations of grooming and dress. 

     II. General Statement

     It is the intent of the International Schools to encourage students to dress in a fashion that supports academic success as well as meet community standards.  The schools are aware that this is a joint effort on the part of the student(s) and guardian(s).


     A. Appropriate Clothing includes, but is not limited to:

    1.   Clothing appropriate for the weather.

    2.  Clothing appropriate for class activities (i.e. Physical education, etc.)

    3.  Clothing that does not create a health or safety hazard. 

    4.  Clothing that is clean and worn appropriately (pants worn with a belt, shirts tucked in, etc).

     

    B. Inappropriate Clothing includes, but is not limited to:

    1.  Wearing clothing or grooming in a manner that is sexually explicit or which conveys sexual innuendo or that may reasonably be construed as sexual.  Shorts and tight fitted clothing are not permitted.

    2. Wearing clothing that includes words or pictures which are obscene, vulgar, abusive, discriminatory or which promote or advertise alcohol, chemicals, tobacco or any other product that is illegal for use by minors.

    3. Wearing clothing and other items or grooming in a manner that represents and/or promotes threat/hate groups, including gangs or supremacist groups (bandanas, etc,).

    4. Wearing clothing or footwear that would damage school property (high heels, tennis shoes with wheels on the bottom).

    5.  Jackets, hats, gloves, hoods, high heel or shoes with wheels, etc, are not to be worn in the building during the school day.

    6. Wearing clothing in a manner that displays undergarments (sagging pants,   tight fitting shirts, etc).

     III. Procedures

    When it has been decided by the school administration that a student’s appearance and/or grooming violates the dress code and/or interferes with the educational environment the student will be instructed to make the necessary modifications and/or sent home.  Parents will be notified of the dress code violation.  If violations persist, administration will take necessary actions as deemed appropriate by discipline procedures and district policy.
